CAPE TOWN, AUGUST 2020
Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus epidemic in South Africa and the national lockdown in March 2020, the board of Lerato’s Hope made the decision to set up a COVID-19 Relief Fund for the purpose of assisting families made more vulnerable through the lockdown. It was also agreed that we would support families through our community partners and that R90 000 be taken from our reserve funds in order to start the fund. Pinelands community donors were invited to add to the fund and we were overwhelmed by the generous response from individuals, local businesses and churches.
Lerato’s Hope’s community service partners are:
Thabo Mbeki Community located in Phillipi East, Ward 35, (which would later include the whole of Ward 35 as overseen by the Ward 35 Development Forum).
Local Ecumenical Church Network (LEAN) of the Ward 35 and Ward 88 area in Cape Town
Capricorn Church located in Vrygrond, Muizenburg, Cape Town
Beautiful Gate South Africa, non profit organization located in Phillipi East, Cape Town
Abahlobo Educare Centre, Barcelona informal settlement, Gugulethu, Cape Town
